Having just finished the three-issue arc that began with Amazing Spider-Man #100, this seems like a good time to take stock of how the project is going. Issue 100 is a pretty big milestone for me, obviously. For one thing, it marks the end of the 100-issue writing streak by Stan Lee, which will probably mean a pretty big shift in the tone of the series. It also just means I’ve read kind of a lot.
With approximately 600 Amazing issues (if we count both volumes), I’m about 1/6 (approx. 16%) of the way towards completing those titles. In terms of all the shit I’m reading, it’s a different story. Amazing #102 was the 280th Spidey comic I’ve read. With 3458 comics in the current count, that’s only about 8% of the way towards my goal. Yikes!
It’s been 160 days since I made my first post, which is just under half of my original goal of one year. 8% of the work done, 44% of the time gone – not doing too well! I have 206 days left to go (it is a leap year, after all). If I actually want to finish within a year, that means I need to read more than 15 issues per day. Clearly this isn’t going to happen.
Despite my apparent lack of progress, I’m pretty happy with how things are going. I obviously won’t finish within a year, but the pace I’ve set isn’t really all that bad. I might have to speed it up a bit, but I’m enjoying myself, so I don’t really feel too much pressure.
Ok, that’s it!
