The Sensational Spider-Man Vol. 1 Annual 1996Kraven’s First Hunt!
Writer: J.M. DeMatteis
Artist: Shawn McManus
Letterer: Janice Chiang
Originally published: 1996

Extended retelling of ASM #15, Spider-Man’s first encounter with Kraven. This book totally didn’t work for me, and it was a huge disappointment after I liked the original story so much.

  • I don’t like the art, it’s all creepy big teeth everywhere. It isn’t bad really, but I don’t really think it suits the story.
  • I also hated the lettering, at least all of it associated with Kraven. A serif typeface just looks crazy weird and out of place. There were also a lot of typos that really took me out of the book. I hate that, it’s just sloppy editing.
  • Finally, the writing is really bad and full of overly grandiose language and boring clich├ęs.
