The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 005Marked For Destruction by Dr. Doom!
Written by: Stan Lee
Drawn by: Steve Ditko
Lettering by: S. Rosen
Originally published: October 1963

This issue sucked. After an interminably long setup – the painful length of which is acknowledged in the narration – the reader is rewarded with an insanely drawn out, incredibly unentertaining battle between Spider-Man and Dr. Doom. The whole thing is just Doom going “how about I attack you with this stupid gadget I invented” and Spider-Man getting by each one. Doom’s inventions are all ridiculous, as are Spider-Man’s defenses. I’ve realized that I hate how science is treated in these older books. I really don’t think Lee and Ditko had any sort of grasp of scientific concepts at all, or maybe they just didn’t care to aim for any sliver of realism. Either way, I find it incredibly off-putting and it consistently takes me out of the stories.

I found this issue very annoying.
